Interfacial Rheometer

Oscillating Needle Rheometer designed to measure the mechanical response of a Langmuir monolayer to an external shear stress. The instrument is a custom-made apparatus analogous to the one recently developed by the group of Gerald Fuller.

A magnetic needle embedded within the film oscillates within a channel, driven by an external magnetic field. By measuring the amplitude and phase lag of the needle oscillation, the shear modulus of the film is obtained.
